Well, there it is! The New York Giants got their guy and have filled their head coaching vacancy with their top candidate, and there are plenty of reasons to smile today if you’re a Big Blue fan.
The deal is in the process of being finalized, but once contract negotiations are complete, the 63-year-old will officially be at the helm of the Giants after 18 seasons with the Ravens.
While this is a win for everyone in and around the organization, the real winner of this news might be Jaxson Dart, who will benefit from an experienced coach and continue to develop in the right way.
John Harbaugh is the perfect head coach for NY Giants QB Jaxson Dart in every way
The G-Men hosted Harbaugh at their facilities on Wednesday for a formal interview, and Dart was part of the picture and a selling point for the former Super Bowl Champion. The 22-year-old quarterback was in attendance and had the chance to meet with Harbaugh. It appears their conversation went well, and this is the start of a happy marriage.
Harbaugh will become Dart’s fourth head coach in three years, going back to his senior year at Ole Miss in 2024, where he played under Lane Kiffin and last season as a rookie under Brian Daboll and interim head coach Mike Kafka with the Giants. Harbaugh’s resume and experience speak for themselves and stand out over every other coach Dart has played for.
Harbaugh is expected to bring Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken along with him to New York to become the Giants’ OC. Harbaugh and Monken will be significant upgrades over Daboll and Kafka and will make a big impact on Dart’s development, who was impressive in his rookie campaign, even in a frustrating season that included changes to the Giants’ leadership.
In 12 starts and 14 appearances last season, Dart threw for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns, and ran for 487 yards and nine touchdowns. He turned many heads around the league in 2025, who see him as a future star and have compared him to signal callers like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, which isn’t such a bad thing now that Harbaugh is his head coach.
With Harbaugh and Monken in Dart’s corner next season, the 22-year-old can only go up from here, so the potential for him to become a player of a similar caliber to one of the top quarterbacks in the league isn’t completely crazy, with how well they worked with Jackson in Baltimore.
It won’t just be Dart who benefits from Harbaugh and Monken’s presence; we can expect players like Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo to take advantage of having them in the building once they return from their season-ending injuries. Not to mention the Giants also occupy the fifth overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, which they can use on another playmaker.
There’s plenty of optimism for the Giants for the future! For now, let’s give the Mara and Tisch families and Joe Schoen credit for absolutely nailing this hire and getting the perfect head coach who they believe will turn this ship around and maximize Dart and the players around him.
