John Harbaugh sent a not-so-subtle message to Giants WR on thin ice

Not hard to read between the lines here.

John Harbaugh recently stood at a college podium and delivered the ultimate NFL wake-up call wrapped in graduation caps and gowns.

Speaking to the Miami University Class of 2026, the New York Giants head coach (and Miami University alum) offered much more than generic life advice -- he basically penned the preview for Jalin Hyatt’s daunting summer. Harbs laughed off the brutal reality of professional adversity, and for a recent third-round draft pick watching his roster spot evaporate, there is absolutely nothing funny about it.

Hyatt entered the league with considerable hype as a Biletnikoff Award winner. A meager 13 receptions over his last two professional seasons combined have put his roster security on life support. As the G-Men get ready for OTAs, Harby's commencement speech on resilience reads like a polite eviction notice for a player running out of time:

"There's going to be tough times. They're going to show up, too. You might get a call with some bad news. Maybe about your job. Maybe they'll tell you they don't want you anymore. Time to move on," he said with a chuckle. "It happens. In those moments, I hope you'll find resilience.

And you'll be able to rejoice in all the good you'll still have. And all the people who still care for you. That you'll come to understand that there is a great opportunity on the next horizon of your life. And you can still walk together into every uncertain future with the people you love."

John Harbaugh’s commencement speech sounds like a clear warning for Jalin Hyatt

General manager Joe Schoen aggressively traded up to select the explosive weapon out of Tennessee back in 2023. He was expected to become a cornerstone of an explosive offense, but through three years, he's been anything but.

But the notion of being safe via draft pedigree is officially dead. If the offseason has shown fans anything, it's that it has spent the last three months building a wide receiver room that all but shuts the door on Hyatt's path to a roster spot.

Look at the players Schoen and Co. brought to North Jersey this offseason. The G-Men signed veterans Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III to directly impact Hyatt's already (severely) limited target share. They also used a 2026 Draft pick on Notre Dame wideout Malachi Fields, a guy they also traded up for in the third round, tailored specifically to be a long-ball demon.

Hyatt’s tiny $1.5 million cap hit makes him an incredibly low-risk cut candidate or easy trade chip.

Harbaugh stood on a stage and preached about finding a "great opportunity on the next horizon of your life." Say less. Like, tell me Hyatt's gone without telling me. However, if there were ever a final wake-up call for the 24-year-old, that was it. It might be time to get ready for that next chapter, because it looks more likely that it won't be in Giants blue.
