There’s a lot of optimism surrounding the New York Giants as they start a new era under John Harbaugh, but there is one gloomy cloud in the team’s sky. That cloud is the fact that star receiver Malik Nabers is recovering from a torn ACL. Everyone would love for the receiver to be ready to roll when the season kicks off, but every update leaves fans concerned that won’t happen.
That continued on Thursday when Harbaugh talked about Nabers’ recovery and the timeline everyone is hoping for. The head coach said bluntly that the receiver is in the “slog of (his rehab), the grind of it.” Harbaugh went on to say that the goal remains for Nabers to get on the field at some point during training camp, and to be ready for the start of the season.
However, the head coach ended things by saying, ‘If he’s out there, great,” and that didn’t really send a comforting message to fans that the team expects the receiver to be ready for Week 1.

John Harbaugh says Giants’ receiver Malik Nabers is in the grind of rehab
Of course, coming back from significant knee injuries are brutal, and it’s hard to predict when a player will be ready to get back on the field. Still, it seems like every update surrounding Nabers has had a discouraging tone. Just recently, it was announced that the receiver had a second surgery on his knee to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness. While the procedure was downplayed as something that shouldn’t affect his return-to-play timeline, it’s never a good thing to hear that a recovery process isn’t going smoothly.
Nabers sustained the injury in Week 4, on September 28, and didn’t have the initial surgery until October 28. Per the receiver, he had a lot going on with his knee, and also had a full meniscus repair when the ACL was operated on as well. That has all led to a recovery process that Nabers is currently grinding his way through.
While everyone is hoping for the receiver to be in the lineup when the season kicks off, Nabers has made it clear that he isn’t putting himself on any timeline. He’s determined to listen to his body throughout this process, and has said if his body doesn’t feel right, he won’t be on the field. While fans would hate to see Nabers miss more time, that’s absolutely the right approach. It’s important that the wide receiver is healthy and ready to be himself whenever he returns.
