The best part of any draft update we get this week is how rushed they feel – teams have been prepping for this weekend every minute of every hour for the last four months, and yet we're going to get some absolutely PANICKED decisions between now and Saturday morning. There's just something soothing about knowing that NFL teams are as bad about procrastinating as we are.

And speaking of competent front offices, let's quickly discuss the New York Football Giants. You may remember that they have the third pick in this year's draft, which is a lot of responsibility for a team that definitely can handle it. For a while, draft people were convinced that they'd take a QB at 3 considering, you know, how things are going over there right now. They seem ready to rock with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, though, because according to Albert Breer, they're out on the idea of using their first round pick on a QB this year after all.
Albert Breer doesn't think the Giants are going to take Shedeur Sanders 3rd overall
"They have, indeed, done a boatload of work on Sanders over the past couple years, largely as part of a massive effort to turn over every rock at the most important position on the field through that time, an effort that first led to a push, before last year’s draft, to trade up for Drake Maye, and then a very busy travel schedule for the scouting brass over the past year ... My guess, and I’m not 100% on this, would be that they won’t take him with the third pick, even though they liked him as they evaluated him in the fall. Maybe they get another shot at him at 34 or trade back into the first round for him. Maybe they like Jaxson Dart or Tyler Shough, both of whom they worked out and met with a bunch of times."
I'm not sure anyone deserves that much credit for figuring out their draft plan three days before it starts, but shoutout to the Giants for "doing their job." They're really starting to figure it out! It's wild to think there's a world where the Giants make two smart decisions about drafting Sanders: taking him at three would be a pretty egregious reach at this point, but landing him at 34 would be an absolute steal.
Let's remember: it's the Giants, so anything's possible. But it sounds like they at least have a plan, which feels like a step in the right direction compared to previous offseasons in recent history. Progress! It's so inspiring.
