Malik Nabers injury update: NY Giants get good and bad news on star WR
Not a lot of people thought the NY Giants were going to be able to take down the Seahawks in Week 5. The main reason for that was star wideout Malik Nabers was out of action due to the concussion he suffered against the Dallas Cowboys the week before.
Next up for the 2-3 G-Men is a Sunday Night Football showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals. Everyone is waiting to see if Nabers will be able to suit up or not. Things are still a bit unknown there. Per head man Brian Daboll, the good news is that Nabers is feeling much better.
However, the negative is that he remains in the concussion protocol. Fans are a tad concerned because it's been nearly two weeks since Nabers went down, yet he's still not cleared? This update on Nabers arrived with the news that Kayvon Thibodeaux underwent wrist surgery, only adding to the injury concerns for this team.
NY Giants WR Malik Nabers remains in the concussion protocol
Prior to the injury he suffered in primetime, Nabers was putting on a show for Daboll's offense. He was leading the NFL with his 35 receptions - matter of fact, he's still No. 1 in the league despite missing a game. Nabers also has 386 yards and three touchdowns to his name.
There's no question the first-rounder makes a world of difference for this team, but everyone saw Daniel Jones was able to make things work even without his elite WR on the field with him, something not a lot of NY supporters expected.
Veteran receiver Darius Slayton turned back the clock and balled out for the Giants at Lumen Field, posting eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. Should Nabers be sidelined again, Slayton would once again be counted on to be Jones' No. 1 target, while Wan'Dale Robinson will also be looked at frequently too.
While the other guys stepping up is something Coach Dabes can count on, there will be plenty of relief in East Rutherford if Nabers takes positive steps in the coming days. If he's ready to go to take on the Bengals, look for him to play with his usual swag in the second primetime game of his young career.
