Matt Nagy hasn’t coached a snap and Giants might already have a Plan B

Not to be a nag(y), but...

Let's just say it wasn't exactly fireworks when the New York Giants hired Matt Nagy to be their offensive coordinator earlier in the offseason. To be fair, it wasn't met with fan frustration, either, but there were definitely candidates that were more preferred by the fanbase.

Earlier in the offseason, the Giants interviewed Vikings passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown for the offensive coordinator job before ultimately deciding to go with Nagy. According to our good friend, Dan Duggan of The Athletic, the G-Men weren’t done trying to get McCown in the building, either. They later offered him their passing game coordinator role, but the Vikings blocked the lateral move and kept him in Minnesota.

That little nugget from Duggan -- dugget(?) -- is interesting for a couple of reasons. One, it shows how much interest Big Blue had in the 46-year-old during their coaching staff search. And two, it also quietly plants the idea that New York might already have a future offensive coordinator candidate in mind if Nagy's not here for the long haul.

Giants' interest in Josh McCown apparently isn't going anywhere anytime soon

The former Cardinal, Jet, Brown, Bear... five other team QB has quickly become one of the more intriguing young offensive minds in coaching circles. He’s widely credited for helping revive Sam Darnold’s career in Minnesota and has built a reputation as a bit of a quarterback whisperer during his short time under Kevin O'Connell. You can see why it's not hard to connect the Jaxson Dart dots.

The fact the G-Men interviewed McCown for the OC job and then tried to bring him in again after in another role suggests their interest was anything but casual. Even though the Vikes blocked the move, don't be surprised if his name resurfaces if things in North Jersey change later. And if Nagy turns the offense around in Year 1, it wouldn’t be shocking if he starts getting head coaching looks again.

Talk about the long game.

Let's just hope the only reason why Nagy would be a one-and-done coach in the first place is because the Giants are coming off a Super Bowl win and he's getting head coaching looks. If that's why Big Blue already needs a McCown contingency plan, then sure, I guess let's entertain that in March 2026.
