The New York Giants dropped their fifth straight game this past Sunday, this time against the Green Bay Packers. It was Big Blue's first loss since the franchise fired Brian Daboll and appointed offensive coordinator Mike Kafka as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
There were plenty of firsts for the G-Men in their most recent loss to the Green Bay Packers, including Jameis Winston making his first start in Giants blue, with Jaxson Dart in concussion protocol.
Although Winston wasn’t able to get Big Blue back in the win column and “Eat a W,” you have to look at the positives — and Kafka had plenty of encouraging postgame comments about his veteran signal-caller, which tells us exactly where he sits on the depth chart for the rest of the year.
Mike Kafka sends a clear message about Jameis Winston’s role
Despite several offensive players being sidelined with injuries for Week 11's matchup — Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and Darius Slayton — several other players stepped up, giving the G-Men plenty of encouraging drives.
As far as Winston's performance in the passing game was concerned, he completed 19 of his 29 passes for 201 yards and had a late-game interception. His favorite targets showed up early — Wan'Dale Robinson was targeted nine times, and recently signed Isaiah Hodgins saw six.
After the game, Kafka spoke on Jameis' performance, stating, "I loved where his mindset was the entire game; he was very positive. I thought he was completing a lot of footballs. At no point was there any kind of indecision; he was very decisive with the way he managed the game."

Winston, who has had a positive attitude all season and has been a leader in the Giants locker room, has been New York's third-string emergency quarterback for 10 weeks, but got this opportunity with Dart in concussion protocol, and Russell Wilson struggling.
Although Dart is likely to return from concussion protocol next week against the Detroit Lions, Kafka's comments on Jameis tell you why Winston deserves to be Big Blue's backup for the remainder of the season and why Wilson could serve as the team's third-string.
