It took just 2 weeks for Vikings to sell desperate AFC team on Daniel Jones

The Daniel Jones hype is reaching unimaginable levels.

Daniel Jones has been on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad for all of two weeks, but apparently, that’s all it took to spark some potential offseason buzz. The former New York Giants quarterback, who was let go after years of inconsistency, is now being linked to the Tennessee Titans as a potential option to “push” Will Levis in 2025.

Yes, you read that right. Jones, the former first-round bust benched for undrafted Tommy DeVito earlier this season and waived outright, is suddenly back in the conversation as a viable quarterback option. Maybe Minnesota has some magic dust lying around at their facility because the idea that Jones has turned a corner in two weeks of practice squad reps is nothing short of hilarious.

And yet, here come the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee could be intrigued by the possibility of bringing in Jones as competition for Levis, whose up-and-down play this season has the team looking for answers. Apparently, desperate times call for Daniel Jones.

Tennessee Titans are the latest team intrigued by Vikings QB Daniel Jones

The Titans’ interest in Jones feels like a masterclass in optimism. Christopher Kline of FanSided made the case for Jones, writing, “It is perhaps foolish to tab Jones as a definite starter in 2025, but one has to think he deserves another chance.”

Kline went on to add, “Jones can at least hold a fire to Levis’ feet. If Jones outperforms Levis, that at least clarifies something about the future in Tennessee. Jones probably isn’t a long-term starting option, but he’s a prototypical athlete for the position—6-foot-5, 230 pounds, with mobility and an occasional canon—and he could provide a bit more stability with real pass protection and a viable playmaking corps.”

Sure, Jones has the size and mobility teams like in a quarterback. But let’s not forget why he’s even on the Vikings’ practice squad in the first place.

After five-plus years with the G-Men, Jones still failed to elevate the offense. And while it’s easy to blame New York’s issues—shaky offensive line, lackluster weapons—it's not like Jones was making plays and looking like the next Eli Manning. He was drowning.

Nobody’s saying Jones doesn’t deserve a shot to stick around in the league, but the idea that he’s suddenly a guy who can push Levis or stabilize any team's quarterback situation is a bit much. Two weeks on Minnesota’s practice squad aren’t a comeback story—it’s a waiting room. Kevin O'Connell is probably helping Jones, but KOC has his own rookie to develop and a reclamation project in Sam Darnold to get ready for a deep playoff run. How much improvement will Jones actually undergo?

Adding Jones feels more like a move born out of necessity than conviction. The Titans understandably have mixed feelings about Levis, and with the draft light on elite quarterback talent, options are slim. But counting on Jones to stabilize a struggling team is iffy, at best. What about Tennessee screams organizational excellence?

If Minnesota has truly unlocked something with Jones in two weeks that the Giants couldn’t figure out in five-plus years, then maybe Kevin O’Connell deserves Coach of the Year. Until we see proof that Jones has made any real progress, though, this feels like another chapter in the saga of teams falling for the idea of Daniel Jones rather than the reality.

This feels like déjà vu. Another team looks at Jones and sees potential, while the fans who lived through his struggles know exactly how the story ends. If Tennessee wants to buy into the “Daniel Jones Experience,” they’re welcome to it—but maybe they should call New York first and ask how that worked out.
