New Mock Draft has Giants missing out on Daniel Jones replacement and taking OT

This is not what Giants fans are hoping for

After swinging and missing on bringing in a new star quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, the last thing NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen can afford next spring is to do the same. The G-Men are 2-5 on the year, the campaign feels lost and Daniel Jones has proven he's not the answer.

This is Year 6 of the Danny Dimes experiment and Year 3 of the Schoen-Brian Daboll era. Major changes need to arrive next offseason and a new quarterback must be the top priority. Several mock drafts have the Giants bringing in a Jones replacement.

However, in a new one from CBS, they see things going in a different direction. College footballanalyst Blake Brockermeyer posted his latest mock and in surprising fashion, he has the Giants taking LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell with the No. 9 overall pick. What?

LSU OT Will Campbell goes to the NY Giants in latest CBS Mock Draft

"Back to the offensive tackle in the top 10 well the Giants go. Campbell has excellent feet and the ability to get to his spot quickly with a nice punch. He has some technique issues to clean up but has been an excellent blindside protector for three years in the toughest conference in football."

While this feels like a letdown, the fact of the matter is that the quarterback class isn't as strong as it was last year. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders feel like locks to be first-round picks, but outside of them, there are a lot of question marks for the other prospects.

Carson Beck isn't looking like a potential NFL stud. Prior to the season starting, some believed he'd be in the running to be the No. 1 overall pick. Now, not so much. For the '24 class, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels were the elite targets for teams. Daboll was a big fan of all three, but Schoen couldn't trade up to land any of them.

Come next April, the Giants are going to hope to land a new QB1, but they're also not going to reach for someone inside of the Top 10, should they end up picking there. Maybe they'll look at free agency to help things out?

Who knows, but Jones is more than likely going to be on his way out of town and Schoen can't mess up his QB plan the way he has in the past. Campbell would be a solid get, especially with Evan Neal being a bust, but NY must do everything they can to fix their signal-caller problem.
