You don’t need to be an NFL insider to know what kind of pressure cooker the New York Giants are walking into this fall. After a pair of seasons that felt more like punishment than progress, the Brian Daboll-Joe Schoen era has officially reached its breaking point.
But that’s exactly why nobody should be caught sleeping on this team. Desperation has a way of turning average into aggressive and cautious into dangerous. And the Giants? They’re out of time, out of excuses, and absolutely out for blood.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently wrote an article giving one reason each team in the league shouldn't be overlooked heading into the 2025 season. Kay's reasoning for the Giants should come as no surprise: it's now or never for the current regime.
Giants are finally playing with urgency and that’s what makes them dangerous
Kay kept it short and sweet, and hit the nail on the head: "The Giants are running out of patience with the head coach/general manager tandem of Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen."
Kay couldn't be more spot on with this. You can't fake desperation, and the G-Men have a surplus of that as we head into this season. What was once a promising future for the franchise after a playoff win in Daboll's first year as coach is close to crashing down.
Since that 2022 season, the team is 9-25 and has been the punchline of all jokes throughout the league. However, as Kay said, those past two seasons of turmoil could be the reason they are a team not to take lightly this fall.
It's easy to just assume the Giants will be bad based on their recent history, and you can't really argue with that. But they have reloaded in every way possible this offseason. They added quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and traded back into the first round to secure Jaxson Dart.
They took linebacker Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick to complement Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Plus, they shored up their secondary with cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland. These additions, plus the sense of urgency everyone in the organization should feel, are why this team will be no joke this year.
So far, Schoen is proving why it was the right decision for owner John Mara to bring him back, and now it's Daboll's turn to do the same. Honestly, he has no excuse to make this team anything but competitive. He has his quarterback, a defense full of studs, and a seemingly healthy offensive line and skill positions.
He's done more with less, so now that he has his guys, fans could see a total 180 compared to the 3-14 nightmare that was 2024.
Schoen and Daboll have their backs up against the wall this year, and it's a big reason why some people around the league are not sleeping on them in 2025. Hopefully, this duo proves all those people right.
