Giants are making their position on Dexter Lawrence’s crystal clear

Here to say, at least for the moment.

With a new coaching regime for the New York Giants, led by John Harbaugh, many changes are expected to unfold this offseason.

And as the calendar hits March, the start of the new league year and free agency moves are slowly on the horizon in what is expected to be a busy offseason for Harbaugh and the Giants, who are looking to contend instantly in 2026.

Despite an already talented roster for Big Blue, nobody is safe, as Harbaugh looks to shake things up in whatever way he believes can turn this into a winner instantly, even if that means moving on from some fan favorites. But that may not be the case for one popular Giants player coming off what was perhaps his worst season yet in the NFL.

Giants are not expected to move on from Dexter Lawrence this offseason

According to SNY insider Connor Hughes, Dexter Lawrence is not expected to be dealt this offseason by the Giants, calling the defensive tackle borderline untouchable.

"Multiple sources who met with the Giants said they came away believing Lawrence, barring insane return value, was untouchable," Hughes wrote. "One high-ranking Giants source said there was “zero truth” to any notion they were considering moving Lawrence. "

The former first-round pick is coming off what was truly his worst season in the NFL since being drafted with the 19th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Lawrence compiled just half a sack in all 17 games played, going on 24 games in a row without a full sack.

This disastrous season for Lawrence comes a year after he racked up a career-high nine sacks during the 2024 season. Despite his lack of production and a new head coach in the building, Lawrence may not be going anywhere, at least for right now.

Hughes also noted that the new defensive coordinator for the Giants, Dennard Wilson, is very high on Lawrence, with the two already talking this offseason, as well as Wilson devising ways to use him and fellow pass rushers Abdul Carter and Brian Burns together.

While it's hard to understate just how disappointing Dexter Lawrence was last season, the Giants seem very confident, according to this latest report by Hughes, that he can bounce back in 2026 and become a long-term player for the Giants for many seasons to come.
