The last time that the New York Giants won the NFC East title was in 2011. Yes, it has really been (at least) 15 years since that happened.
That should be a clear indicator of how miserable this team has been against other NFC East rivals, as well as how underwhelming every season has been since. Can this upcoming 2026 campaign finally break the streak?
Longest active drought in NFC without a division title
When looking at the rest of the NFL, there have been five other teams with longer droughts of not winning the top spot in their division. All five of those teams are in the AFC. That's a real eye-opener there.
Team | Division | Year |
|---|---|---|
Cleveland Browns | AFC North | 1989 |
Las Vegas Raiders | AFC West | 2002 |
New York Jets | AFC East | 2002 |
Los Angeles Chargers | AFC West | 2008 |
Miami Dolphins | AFC East | 2009 |
New York Giants | NFC East | 2011 |
Both the Giants and the New York Jets make up that list of six teams labeled above, as the football gods continue to punish the Garden State.
The G-Men have a very good chance of breaking this stigma in 2026, led by second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart and new head coach John Harbaugh. Despite being a 4-13 team last season, the offseason acquisitions on both sides of the ball and the uptick in vibes in the locker room make this a completely different team than the 2025 version.
That being said, the drought may have a way of grabbing a hold of this team. 15 years is a long time not to be the top dog in the NFC East, but when you look at how many times Big Blue has been in that spot in their franchise history, it makes sense.
Outside of the St. Louis Cardinals, who then turned into the Arizona Cardinals when they moved out West in 1988 and out of the NFC East, the G-Men have the least amount of division titles among the four teams. The Dallas Cowboys have 25 NFC East titles, followed by Philadelphia with 13, then Washington with nine.
We have won it eight times since 1967.
If this team, which has done everything and more to try and bring in the best talent available in the Draft and free agency, has the playoffs on its mind, they have to break this curse. There is so much talent on the field, and on the sidelines with a headset on, to not be the team representing the NFC East next season.
This franchise cannot endure adding another number onto that embarrasing fact.
