Giants can’t shake grim NFC East outlook despite major upgrades

Expectations don't seem too high for the G-Men in 2025.

Entering the 2025 season, the New York Giants are desperate to rebound after their disastrous 2024 campaign, one that saw them finish a franchise-worst 3-14 and drop 10 straight games to close out the year.

The front office made plenty of moves this offseason to change that narrative. New York signed two veteran quarterbacks, upgraded the secondary, and used its first-round picks on Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart, hoping those additions would be key pieces in turning the franchise around.

On paper, Big Blue looks improved. But despite the offseason overhaul, are the Giants still the favorites to finish in the NFC East basement for a second straight year?

The Giants are predicted to finish in last place in the NFC East

In a recent piece for Bleacher Report, Brad Gagnon predicted that even with Russell Wilson opening the season under center and a breakout sophomore campaign from Malik Nabers seemingly on the way, Big Blue is still projected to finish last in the division. Gagnon wrote:

"A first division win for the Giants since 2011 would also require the talented Cowboys to suffer from something," Gagnon wrote. "The Giants still have plenty of holes coming off a three-win campaign and Wilson could easily be toast. Throw in that their three division rivals all could be Super Bowl contenders, and the task is likely too tall even if it all comes together for Brian Daboll's team."

There’s no sugarcoating it: Big Blue plays in one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. After watching the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl last year and the Washington Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, reach the NFC Championship Game, it’s easy to see why the Giants might struggle against their division foes. And while the Dallas Cowboys missed the postseason last year, they’re still a team you can’t sleep on in this division.

The Giants will certainly have their work cut out for them this year, especially with the hardest strength of schedule in football. But in the NFL, anything is possible. We’ve seen teams before who weren’t expected to do much end up exceeding expectations. Maybe it’s finally the G-Men’s turn in 2025 to bounce back.
