The New York Giants are in the middle of an NFC East divisional battle against the Dallas Cowboys, and one player is taking the "battle" literally.
When he's not punching opposing players in the face, James Hudson is attacking his teammates and coaches on the sidelines, too. In one of the more ridiculous meltdowns in recent memory, the 26-year-old offensive tackle was seen exploding on the sideline after being pulled for one of the worst opening drives the league has seen... ever.
Hudson was flagged four times on the opening drive, including a personal foul call for punching James Houston in the face instead of blocking him normally. The Giants settled for an opening drive field goal to take the lead, but they left points on the board due to the veteran tackle's ineptitude. Daboll rightfully pulled him from the game, which sparked a manic tantrum from the fifth-year professional.
James Hudson goes full meltdown mode after being pulled following opening drive
Once Hudson hit the sideline, it was helmet off and all gas, no breaks. He was caught on camera screaming at anyone and everyone in his vicinity, with Dabs receiving the bulk of the feedback.
It's honestly just a massive embarrassment for the G-Men. This is a really bad look. After struggling horrifically in Week 1 against the Commanders, instead of putting in the work to fix his mistakes, he does this? It's unacceptable. This is the guy Big Blue is trusting with replacing star tackle Andrew Thomas. He's doing a terrible job.
If there's any silver lining in this ridiculous encounter, rookie lineman Marcus Mbow will be getting some starter reps while Hudson's head cools. Mbow was a preseason darling who could be the actual answer to Thomas' absence.
New York just can't afford lapses in judgment like this — not in a game where there's a legitimate chance they could steal a win. Hudson's antics might cost him his starting job moving forward. It'll be interesting to see what Daboll does with him the rest of the game, but he deserves to sit the rest of the game out for his play, let alone his sideline antics.
Whether he gets another shot is up to Daboll. But after today, it’s clear the leash needs to be a whole lot shorter.
