Much has been said about the Giants’ impressive 34-25 victory over the Buffalo Bills. All eyes were on the quarterbacks, and luckily for fans, all four rostered made an appearance. Even better, every single one of them was impressive in their own right.

Russell Wilson got the start, playing one drive before rookie sensation Jaxson Dart took over. The 22-year-old rookie impressed early and often, leading the team to three scoring drives out of the four he played. Jameis Winston came in to start the second half and didn’t disappoint, either. Even after throwing out three QBs, Brian Daboll wasn’t done.
It wasn’t until Tommy DeVito entered the game that it got too out of hand for the Bills to do anything about it. The third-year fan favorite hit Jonathan Ward for an eight-yard touchdown pass to put the G-Men up nine with just over two minutes remaining. It all but secured the win for New York, and it might have all but secured a future roster spot for Tommy Cutlets.
Tommy DeVito's preseason performance against Bills all but secured roster spot for 2025
DeVito finished with an impressive 10 completions for 73 yards and a touchdown. While his third first impression went well, it might not mean much to the Giants, but it could mean everything to him.

Tommy Cutlets arrived in New York as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2023. As a rookie, DeVito took over for an injured Tyrod Taylor, who took over for an injured Daniel Jones. He started six games, fully enamoring himself with the fanbase, unlike anything this team has seen in years. Admittedly, he did take them out of a top-three draft selection, but Malik Nabers is a pretty solid consolation prize.
His second season was a bit rougher. He started two games, going winless, while playing about the safest football a quarterback could play. There was just nothing special about his play, and it ultimately led to a QB overhaul in the 2025 offseason.
With Wilson, Winston, and Dart in tow, it’s hard to imagine a world where DeVito makes the Giants’ 53-man roster once it’s time to get skinny. The team will have to cut 37 players before Week 1, meaning Cutlets is likely on borrowed time. Sure, they can send him to the practice squad, but after Saturday’s performance, it’s hard to believe he won’t pique the interest of another team.
In all likelihood, the G-Men will keep the trio of Wilson, Winston, and Dart, and relegate the 27-year-old to the practice squad. Unfortunately, that means any team can sign him to their 53-man roster if they’re so inclined. And after seeing his performance against the Bills, there will be plenty of teams interested in his services.
The problem is that those services might be in a different city. And for a guy who once stepped in as a rookie and had MetLife eating out of his hand, it’s a weird spot to be in — the kind where you can play well, win over the crowd, and still watch the roster math push you out the door.
It's hard to envision a future where four QBs are on the roster. It's just so unlikely. Also, Dart is the future, essentially making everyone else on the roster expendable.
Saturday was supposed to be about the Giants’ quarterbacks, and it was, just maybe not in the way the front office expected. Four guys got their shot, all four delivered, and one of them might have just played himself onto a roster spot... even if it ends up being somewhere else.
