The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and the New York Giants figure to be one of the more interesting teams in it.
It’s so much more than just having an early pick. Dexter Lawrence’s trade request could throw a 340-pound wrench into the entire weekend. So could a Kayvon Thibodeaux trade. But the fifth overall pick itself is arguably the most interesting spot, because it allows the G-Men to play gatekeeper for a handful of game-changing prospects other teams would also love to have.
There seems to be a clear top five players they’re interested in: Francis Mauigoa (Miami OL), Jeremiyah Love (Notre Dame RB), Caleb Downs (Ohio State SAF), Sonny Styles (Ohio State LB), and Carnell Tate (Ohio State WR). It’s anyone’s guess as to who New York selects, and for anyone looking for pre-draft clues, looking at who’ll physically attend the draft can sometimes provide a little insight. But maybe not this time.
Well, to just about every Giants fan’s disappointment, they’re going to have exactly no extra information on who Big Blue will take when its name is called on draft night, at least based on which prospects are planning on attending from the green room:

That’s right -- all five of the guys expected to be in play for the Giants will be in attendance in Pittsburgh, giving them absolutely nothing as we wait for Roger Goodell to call out the name.
Giants fans get absolutely nothing from NFL Draft attendee list
Much like last year, it’s going to depend on how the picks ahead of them shake out. We know Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is going No. 1 overall to the Raiders, but other than that, it's the Wild West.
As for the Giants, it's tough to tell which way they're leaning because each of these prospects offers something different:
- Mauigoa gives the team a road paver, who uses his 6-foot-6, 330-pound frame to bully defensive linemen into the second level.
- Love would be a Jahmyr Gibbs-Bijan Robinson hybrid, giving head coach John Harbaugh the lead back the G-Men don't currently have, but would love to.
- Downs might be the best football player in the class. It's probably between him and Love. The 21-year-old could give Harby his Big Blue rendition of his three-safety look from Baltimore days.
- Styles is an off-ball linebacker that positional value stans will hate this early. But with player comps to Fred Warner, sometimes keeping it simple and taking a 6-foot-5 unicorn in the middle just makes too much sense.
- Tate would be the perfect complement to Malik Nabers, running smooth-as-butter routes and giving Jaxson Dart a much-needed vertical weapon in the passing game.
While it’s not necessarily surprising that all five of the guys in the mix are attending -- they’re first-round mortal locks -- it would’ve been nice if one or two stayed home. At least then, Giants fans would have something to work with. Instead, we're back to the guessing game.
