It’s always a good day for New York Giants fans when the Dallas Cowboys manage to outdo themselves in the dysfunction department. Sure, the Micah Parsons contract standoff is pure comedy—shoutout to Jerry Jones—but this time it’s the offense making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The Cowboys have been spinning their wheels at running back for the past couple of seasons, stuck with a revolving door of underwhelming options and no real solution in sight. This offseason, they tried to change that. They signed Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency, then drafted Jaydon Blue, hoping he’d finally bring some juice back to the backfield.

Cowboys fans were counting on Blue to turn heads early and prove he could eventually be their lead back. But if the latest bombshell report from Marcus Mosher of The Landry Hat is any indication, Dallas may have swung and missed yet again—and this time, the whiff might be Blue’s own doing.

Jaydon Blue already has Cowboys rethinking their backfield plan

Appearing on the Locked on Cowboys podcast, former Dallas coach Glenn Smith didn’t hold back when talking about the fifth-round rookie. According to Mosher, Smith said that coaches inside the building view Blue as “borderline lazy” and are far from impressed with his work habits.

Not exactly a glowing review for a 21-year-old who was supposed to be the future, but absolutely hilarious for Big Blue Nation. It's even funnier when you compare Blue to Giants rookie Cam Skattebo, whose work ethic is the stuff of legend.

Since the early Ezekiel Elliott days, they just haven’t been able to find a consistent running back. Try as they might with free agent additions, draft picks, or undrafted guys, their running game has just been a mess. And even when they do potentially find a guy, Jones’ cheapness gets in the way.

Tony Pollard left for the Titans for a bigger bag. Rico Dowdle dipped to Carolina for a bigger role. Zeke came back last year and looked like a shell of the guy they cut in the first place.

Meanwhile, the G-Men lost Saquon Barkley and still managed to build at least something that could resemble a real backfield. Tyrone Tracy Jr. looks like a keeper, and Devin Singletary is back in a steady depth role. Now they’ve added Skattebo, a fourth-round pick with real three-down ability. It’s not hard to imagine him carving out a real role behind Tracy sooner rather than later.

Cowboys fans can hope Blue figures out how to work hard in the NFL. But while he’s getting called out for laziness, Giants fans are watching their RB room go full steam ahead in East Rutherford — and they’re loving every second of it. Hats off to Dallas for staying true to form and tripping over themselves yet again.
