The New York Giants have a new offensive lineman paving the way for franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart.
They took Francis "Sisi" Mauigoa at No. 10 because the offensive line needed someone to make sure Dart remained upright for 60 minutes on Sunday, not another big body to throw on the line. Last season saw Dart take a lot of hits. And while he needs to learn how to slide and pick and choose when to be full-send aggressive, he also could use someone to help pave the way.
So they went out and got the best offensive lineman in the class, whose player comp is a steamroller -- he's literally been referred to as a "road paver."
After he heard his name called, the 6-foot-6, 330-pound mountain of a man was asked if he had a message for his new quarterback. And you couldn't script a more electric response possible:
"I'll die about this s***, man. Man, I'm ready to die for you, man. I know a lot of things have happened, bro, but I'm ready to die for you, man."Francis Mauigoa
Hang it in the Louvre.
Francis Mauigoa’s message to Jaxson Dart is exactly what Giants needed
First off, a thank you to the Cincinnati Bengals for making the pick possible. The only reason the Giants had the 10th pick in the first place was because of that trade. Returns like a top-10 pick for a 28-year-old don’t come around often, but when they do, you have to make the most of it.
It didn’t take long for the Giants to get that reassurance that they got it right.
Sisi was a known mauler coming out of college. His size, burst, strength, and willingness to climb to the second level are what made him such an intriguing option. For him to essentially confirm that in real time on draft night was something special. Big Blue could use a few more chaos demons in the locker room.
Dart has to be as fired up, if not more, than the fans after hearing that. The team already believes in him, and that shows by drafting guys who are willing to put their bodies on the line for their franchise quarterback. Mauigoa joins a crowded offensive line room, but figures to take over the starting right guard spot right away. He’ll eventually kick out to tackle when the time is right, but he’ll need to block a few defenders into another universe from the inside first.
It doesn’t get much better than that. Offensive linemen having their quarterback’s back from Day 1 are the real ones. It’s awesome knowing the G-Men found exactly that.
