With the calendar flipping over to April, the NFL season is going to start ramping up toward the 2026 season. There was some great news for two of the New York Giants' premier players, and their healthy comebacks will be crucial for the upcoming year.
Both offensive juggernauts, Malik Nabers, who tore his ACL and meniscus, and Cam Skattebo, who dislocated his ankle, fractured his fibula, and had a ruptured deltoid ligament, are on track to be back for offseason workouts, as reported by Dan Salomone of Giants.com.
While Joe Schoen is hopeful the pair will be good to go this offseason, right now, the most optimistic view is that both will be ready in September for Week 1.
That is the absolute best-case scenario for the playoff-hopeful Giants, and fans should be ecstatic. The more time that the trio of Nabers, Skattebo, and quarterback Jaxson Dart gets, the better.
Giants are getting star players back at the right time
Outside of the "Big Three" listed above, Darnell Mooney joins a new team, as does Isiah Likely. Not to mention, head coach John Harbaugh has stated that they are not done bringing in even more talent to round out the roster.
This team is going to need all the time they can possibly get to establish chemistry and to prove they are completely, 100% healthy. That includes Leek and Skatt, who are coming off devastating injuries.
Leg injuries as severe as what both players went through are obvious setbacks, but the hope is that the healing period might be long enough for them that they can move forward at full-health. When workouts begin on April 7, these two integral parts of the offense have to be able to gain strength in the affected areas.
Of course, that is the hope.
There is a chance that the G-Men can be a playoff team in 2026. Actually, behind the will of Harbaugh and the sophomore slump-less Dart, they should be a favorite to make it past the regular season for the second-time since the 2016 Wildcard loss to Green Bay.
Nabers and Skattebo could be key nominees for the comeback player of the year, as both had their 2025 campaign cut short due to those debilitating injuries. We could see the first-ever combo winner of that award. Wouldn't that be something?
Has enough time passed for the dynamic duo to get healthy, and how important is it for them to approach this offseason workout session with caution versus optimism?
