There might only be seven wonders of the world, but Daniel "Danny Dimes" Jones is making a strong case to be the eighth.
Giants fans have seen this movie before. New York bought the tickets, ate the popcorn, and watched the unceremonious ending play out firsthand. Yet somehow, the Indianapolis Colts missed the premiere.
According to The Athletic’s James Boyd, the Colts enter the 2026 season with Jones firmly planted as the player with the most on the line because it's Daniel Jones, and he always manages to look like the guy right before reality catches up to him.
As Boyd noted, "The Colts were so desperate to retain Jones in free agency that they placed the transition tag on him before awarding him a two-year, $88 million contract with $50 million guaranteed at signing."

Take the 2025 NFL season for instance. Things were going suspiciously well, like too well, for "Indiana Jones" and the Colts before they weren't. Jones had the team starting off with an unthinkable 7-1 record, and Indy fans were convinced the Ponies had found their long-term answer at quarterback.
Then, Murphy's Law -- anything that can go wrong, will go wrong -- hit like a freight train. The Colts went 1-4 in their next five games with Jones under center before he suffered a season-ending torn Achilles. Sitting at 8-5 with no great options, Indy hilariously decided to drag retired Phillip Rivers off the couch to see what he had left in the tank. They finished the season 8-9.
You could make the argument that his injury caused their season to fall apart. But who's to say even if he didn't get hurt, the Colts would have fared any better?
Regression was already knocking on the door. Jones was already sliding back into the quarterback who trips over his own feet and whose 109 career touchdowns (89 passing and 20 rushing) are evened out by an insane(!) 114 turnovers.
The parallels here are uncanny. Back in March 2023, the Giants infamously handed Jones a massive four-year, $160 million contract following a strong season. They ultimately had to move on and eat an exorbitant amount of dead cap.
Yet, the Colts looked at that and figured things would be different next time, and rewarded the QB-turned-financial-analyst with a brand-new two-year, $88 million contract extension anyway.
That's why Danny Dimes was the obvious choice for Boyd. The front office is buying into a small sample size after panicking over the unimpressive QB market and throwing tons of money at a player recovering from a major injury. Yet from a strict business perspective, it's an incredible run for Jones.
