New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers was in attendance for Day 2 of organized team activities in East Rutherford, but there wasn’t much to see on the field. The team’s Pro Bowl wideout spent most of the morning on the sideline, catching passes from the sideline without taking any actual reps.
Head coach Brian Daboll addressed the situation after practice, confirming Nabers is still rehabbing a toe injury that dates back to his college days at LSU. It’s not considered serious. The Giants are calling it precautionary. But for a player expected to anchor the offense, it’s definitely something worth keeping an eye out for.
Nobody is pressing the panic button... yet. Daboll used words like “mindful” and “smart” when talking about how they’re handling things. And he made it clear that there are no long-term concerns. Still, when it’s a second-year star already sitting out in May, it’s fair to ask how this might impact things over the next few months.
Malik Nabers not participating in OTAs as toe injury lingers
It’s not ideal. Especially not for a player who set a rookie franchise record with 109 receptions last year and made the Pro Bowl despite dealing with chaos at quarterback. Nabers spent most of the 2024 season catching passes from three different starters and still managed to rack up over 1,200 yards. He was a machine. A healthy one, for the most part, but not a stranger to the injury report. He played beat up all last season.
The hope going into 2025 was that stability under center might take him to another level. Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart are all new to the building. And none of them have thrown to Nabers in a live setting yet. That’s a key part of what OTAs are supposed to help build. Timing, chemistry, reps. All of that matters, especially with new quarterbacks.
Nabers is still doing what he can. He’s staying around the team. But the absence of full-speed work is something to track. The Giants want to make sure he’s 100 percent by the time training camp opens, and they’re right to be cautious. A setback now could linger all year. Still, for a team that’s spent the last two seasons trying to dig out of an offensive black hole, seeing their top weapon sidelined this early isn’t necessarily the most reassuring start.
