There aren't many things better than ruining the excitement that a rival team has been building for months. New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has the opportunity to do exactly that on Sunday night.
The G-Men take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, an opening matchup that seems to come up more often than not. Fans in Dallas have spent the offseason declaring new defensive coordinator Christian Parker the savior of the defense that kept them out of the playoffs in 2025. Parker's revamped unit has made the Cowboys a popular pick to win the NFC East.
Dart could send that hype crashing down with one performance. How perfect would it be to watch the Cowboys realize that their playoff chances aren't what they thought they were in real time?
Giants' Jaxson Dart holds the keys to dismantling Cowboys' Christian Parker defense
Parker comes from the Vic Fangio coaching tree. He worked under Fangio with the Philadelphia Eagles, serving as the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator.
The Fangio defensive system is known for disguising coverages, limiting big plays, and playing with light boxes. While Parker will surely implement some of his own ideas with the Cowboys, the scheme will be at least somewhat familiar.
Dart was successful in his two games against Fangio, Parker, and the Eagles last year, throwing for a total of 492 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. In those games, he also ran for a total of 75 yards.
His ability to take what the defense gave him and limit mistakes helped the Giants to a 1-1 record against the Eagles last season. He'll need to carry that strategy into the opener against Parker's Cowboys this year.
Parker will try to confuse Dart before the snap, showing him different coverage shells before shifting into his final look, typically a two-high structure. Those disguises force Dart to make decisions after the snap, which has often been aweakness for the young QB.
Dart will need to trust his offensive line and move through his reads without panicking about the oncoming pass rush. If he can take the easy throws that the defense gives him and avoid making game-changing mistakes, the Giants can tear the Cowboys' defense apart. Dart needs to be a game manager in this one, even if that doesn't fit his typical style of play.
With a buttoned-up performance, Dart can silence his doubters and Cowboys fans at the same time.
