New York Giants fans clamoring for rookie first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart may have to wait a little longer after Week 2, or so we thought. Incumbent starter Russell Wilson briefly turned the clock back in the team's 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys, before ultimately turning into a pumpkin.

Wilson had one of the best statistical performances of an illustrious 14-year (and counting) career. He looked like the once-elite quarterback many knew and loved in his heyday — until it mattered most. Nevertheless, the Giants watched him melt down with the result in balance, quickly putting him back in the crosshairs of Big Blue Nation.

Despite the glaring mistakes, Wilson was largely effective. He completed 30-of-41 passes for 450 yards, marking the second-best single-game output of his career. The 10-time Pro Bowler appeared to put the Dart chatter to bed, though the discussion is officially back open after a crushing defeat in Dallas.

The Giants' defense was getting pushed around for much of the contest in regulation. However, they stepped up in the heat of battle, forcing a punt on the Cowboys' opening possession in extra time. It gave Wilson a chance to lead a game-winning drive for his first New York victory; all he needed was a field goal.

Alas, Wilson couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. He took a costly sack on 2nd-and-3, momentarily coughed up the ball before losing 14 yards. His blunder derailed any momentum G-Men ostensibly gained and gave the Cowboys another chance to prevail, which Dallas failed to take advantage of.

Dallas went three-and-out roughly two minutes later, presenting Wilson with a lifeline. Instead, he gave us one of the most brutal lowlights, tossing a brutal interception. The pressure of the situation seemingly got to him in what went down as his final throw of the evening.

It was a clear miscommunication from Wilson. He was looking for Giants star wide receiver Malik Nabers, who was cutting to the sideline. Yet, the Super Bowl-winning signal-caller heaved a prayer that sailed approximately 15 yards over his top target's head and closer to midfield.

Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson read the play perfectly and made a game-altering pick. The Giants faithful's hearts collectively sank, watching a prime window to beat Dallas' Dak Prescott for the first time since 2016 slam shut. Suddenly, it's back to the drawing board for New York.
