Giants just got linked to a veteran move that would shake up the WR room

A proven veteran presence might be exactly what the Giants’ WR room needs.

With the 2025 NFL Draft now completed, teams are beginning to solidify their rosters. For those who may have missed on certain positions in the draft, free agency becomes the next logical step. It’s also an opportunity to add veteran talent on a more team-friendly deal as the season draws closer.

One of the top remaining free agents, wide receiver Keenan Allen, has been linked to the New York Giants as a strong potential fit. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay recently made the case for why the Giants are the best landing spot for the 12-year veteran.

"With the Giants’ brass facing a mandate from owner John Mara to put a winning product on the field in 2025, they need to onboard at least one more quality pass-catcher after not selecting any receivers in this year’s draft. Keenan Allen fits the bill as a proven receiver with a long history of production throughout his decorated NFL career. Allen is fresh off a disappointing 2024 showing with the Chicago Bears, but being stuck on the league’s worst offense last season limited his ability to contribute. The 12-year vet is only a year removed from the latest of his six Pro Bowl seasons and still has the potential for more as he gears up for his age-33 campaign.”

Allen just wrapped up his first season outside of Los Angeles, finishing the 2024 campaign with 70 catches, 744 yards, and seven touchdowns for the Bears. Despite being 33 years old, he remains a productive option who could provide veteran leadership and stability to a young receiver room.

So where would Allen fit in the Giants’ depth chart?

Malik Nabers is locked in as WR1, while Darius Slayton—who re-signed this offseason—is penciled in as the WR2. Wan’Dale Robinson, who continues to improve each year, likely rounds out the top three. Jalin Hyatt is entering his third season, but his production has been disappointing: just 19 targets, 8 catches, 62 yards, and no touchdowns in two years.

The potential is still there with Hyatt, but the drop-off between his rookie and sophomore seasons is hard to ignore. Considering what the Giants gave up to draft him in 2023, it’s fair to say expectations were much higher.

Outside of Slayton, the Giants don’t currently have a true veteran presence in the WR room. While Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have prioritized youth in building the roster, a seasoned player like Allen could provide a valuable mentor role—and still contribute on the field.

Last year, the Giants brought in Allen Robinson to compete for a roster spot, but he didn’t make the team out of camp. Keenan Allen is a different story. He still has gas in the tank and could immediately push Hyatt and others for snaps.

With the quarterback room now featuring Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and rookie Jaxson Dart, adding a proven veteran receiver makes even more sense. Allen’s presence could help the development of Nabers, Robinson, and Hyatt while providing steady production on Sundays.

Of course, the Giants will need to address their cap situation before making any new additions. According to Over the Cap, the team currently has just $1.1 million in available space, and still needs to sign its full draft class.

But once some flexibility opens up, Keenan Allen should absolutely be on Schoen and Daboll’s radar. Unlike last year’s veteran addition, Allen is still capable of pushing young receivers and helping the offense. If the Giants are serious about taking a step forward in 2025, bringing in a player like Allen should be on the table.
