The New York Giants are really taking advantage of the final days of the offseason. With 90-man roster limits and the real waiver-wire madness not going into effect until after roster cut day (Sunday), new head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen have been working like madmen, tinkering with the roster like they moonlight as mad scientists.
The flurry of moves started when they signed free-agent running back Najee Harris just over a week ago. Veteran wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster got axed as the corresponding move. Big Blue then traded offensive lineman Daniel Faalele to the Jacksonville Jaguars a day later for a 2027 sixth-round pick. With Faalele’s roster spot open, they claimed undrafted rookie defensive lineman Ben Barten back off waivers.
Fast-forward a few days, and the team also released special teams ace Ryan Miller after a dud of a preseason showing against the Miami Dolphins, traded OL Joshua Ezeudu to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2028 seventh-rounder, and put Calvin Austin III on season-ending IR.
That has ultimately led us to Wednesday, with the G-Men signing tight end Josiah Deguara and wide receiver Kobe Prentice to the roster ahead of their final preseason game against the New York Jets on Friday, as reported by Dan Salomone.

Bringing in two skill-position players gives off an interesting vibe for sure, seeing as though the Giants have parted ways with two offensive linemen over the past week and haven’t added any more. For years, the G-Men have struggled with offensive line depth, and now they have so much of it they’re trading it for picks. Crazy times I’m living in, I tell you. But I digress.
One of the open roster spots went to Deguara. The 29-year-old former third-round pick out of Cincinnati has appeared in 77 career games with the Green Bay Packers, Jaguars, and Arizona Cardinals, playing both tight end and fullback. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder has 53 receptions, 471 receiving yards, and three touchdowns in his career.
He actually got a look from the G-Men during their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis earlier in May, so there was already some familiarity there.
The other Wednesday signing is Prentice. The undrafted rookie out of Baylor has already had a busy offseason, spending brief stints with the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots before heading down I-95 to East Rutherford.
What makes Prentice interesting is his blazing 4.37 speed. Standing at 5-foot-1 and 184 pounds, the former Alabama transfer primarily works out of the slot and has the speed to create separation and potentially give the Giants another option on special teams, although that wasn't his strong suit at Baylor.
Realistically, with how crowded the receiver and tight end rooms already are, these moves feel more like adding bodies to get through Friday night without risking anyone who could make the 53-man. Deguara and Prentice will still get one shot against the Jets to prove otherwise, but their biggest job might simply be helping Harbaugh get to cutdown day in one piece.
