The New York Giants will be in a very interesting position going into the 2026 NFL Draft, assuming they don’t drastically outperform expectations. Most NFL experts believe the Giants will finish fourth in the NFC East and will likely be picking inside the top 10 again next year as they try to figure out their quarterback situation.
If that is the case, they could find themselves in a predicament. The 2026 quarterback class is expected to be much better, and they would likely be able to find a passer who is a better prospect than Jaxson Dart. However, it feels unlikely that they would select a quarterback in Round 1 in back-to-back seasons, meaning they would likely target another position on offense instead.
But what position might that be, and who are some of the top non-quarterback prospects that Giants fans should be keeping an eye on this year?
In a recent 2026 NFL mock draft done by Matt Miller of ESPN, he had the Giants picking at No. 2, only behind the Cleveland Browns. If that ends up being the case, it likely means we see a brand-new front office and coaching staff next season.
The New York Giants land right tackle of the future in 2026 NFL mock draft
In Miller’s mock draft, he had the Giants going back to the offensive line, selecting Francis Mauigoa from Miami. Mauigoa has been the starting right tackle at Miami over the last two seasons and was named a second-team All-ACC selection during the 2024 season. Here is what Miller had to say about the giant right tackle and his potential fit in New York:
"Mauigoa enters his third college season as a player on the rise. After allowing five sacks during his true freshman season in 2023, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound right tackle didn't allow a sack last season and drew only three penalties. Mauigoa is best as a run blocker in a zone scheme, with quick feet and the agility to get to the second level. He'd serve as a replacement for disappointing 2022 first-rounder Evan Neal and join a youthful offense which also features 2025 first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, star second-year receiver Malik Nabers and emerging running back Tyrone Tracy Jr."Matt Miller, ESPN
Mauigoa is widely considered the best tackle in this year’s class, and he would be a perfect fit with Andrew Thomas. He already has a bunch of experience on the right side and wouldn’t need to switch positions in the NFL. He'll need to continue growing into his body and adding strength, but he possesses all the athleticism needed to be a star tackle at the next level.
But the hope is that the Giants aren’t drafting high enough to be in range for Mauigoa and that Dart shows enough as a rookie to keep the front office from even considering a quarterback. However, a new front office and coaching staff might have different feelings on Dart, and that’s where things could get really complicated.
Needless to say, this is a huge season for the Giants, and another year that results in them picking inside the top-five selections could make things really dicey in New York. Expect all options to be on the table should the Giants finish with the second-worst record in the NFL once again.
