It goes without saying that Abdul Carter's rookie season has been an unmitigated disaster for the New York Giants.
The third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft has been benched more this season than the number of sacks. Carter has only recorded 1.5 sacks this year and has now been benched twice over the last three weeks due to missing team meetings. The pass rusher was initially benched for one drive during the Giants' Week 11 matchup against the Green Bay Packers and ended up riding the bench on Monday night for the entire first quarter against the New England Patriots.
With it being a forgettable rookie season for the once highly touted pass rusher out of Penn State, this former Giants legend did not mince words when he was asked about Carter's recent behavior.
Lawrence Taylor did not hold back on criticism of Adbul Carter
In an exclusive interview with Steve Serby of the New York Post ($), former Giants pass rusher and Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor gave a blunt assessment of what he has seen from Carter in his first year in the NFL. Spoiler alert...it's nothing positive:
"Wake up," Taylor said. "This is what you worked for, this is where you want to be, so now you're there...Let's wake up. Don't let your teammates down over bulls--t!" Taylor added. "If you can't tell your coach what's going on and why you can't be at practice, then it's bulls--t."

While Carter has received a lot of criticism during his disappointing rookie season, this criticism from Taylor, though, is especially notable, considering Carter wanted to wear his number, which the legendary pass rusher rightfully denied.
Carter has made headlines for all the wrong reasons this year, with the word bust now beginning to swirl around his name. As New York heads into its bye week, Carter now needs to use this upcoming Sunday off to improve and eventually show what he is really capable of during Big Blue's final four games of the season. If, however, he continues to disappoint both on and off the field, who knows how long he will last in New York?
