The New York Giants had a game plan going into the 2026 NFL Draft, and so far, it looks like it worked out perfectly. They grabbed a middle linebacker who is willing to learn how to be an elite pass rusher in Arvell Reese, picked up an offensive lineman willing to sacrifice everything for his sophomore quarterback, and moved up to pick up their next superstar.
Of course, I am talking about the Giants’ third-round selection, wide receiver Malachi Fields from Notre Dame. Footage has been displayed online of his freakish athleticism, and there is a rumor going around that the Giants were all-in on the wideout and traded up to block the Miami Dolphins out.
Malachi Fields can stick out an elite WR Room
One of the more important things to remember here about Fields is that he is joining a highly skilled wide receiver room. Malik Nabers, Darnell Mooney, Darius Slayton, and now Fields. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is going to have a fun time trying to go through all of those reads on every single pass play.
It is obvious that Nabers is going to be coming back with a vengeance in 2026, and Mooney is going to try to adjust to his new surroundings. But Fields has enough talent and hype behind him to put him right behind Nabers by the end of the season.
Without even playing a game, Giants fans are already hoping and coinciding Fields with the likes of Super Bowl legend Plaxico Burress. Those are some seriously big shoes to fill, but with this offense, system, and head coach behind him, there is no telling just how high his ceiling can be.
His time at Notre Dame featured some fantastic grabs, and that was with running back Jeremiyah Love taking a good chunk of the ball away from the passing game. Fields has that difference-maker aura around him, and head coach John Harbaugh cannot mess this up.
This wide receiver squad may be one of the best trios ever assembled. If Fields can lock up the third spot on the depth chart, ahead of Slayton, it could be a three-headed monster scenario for the Giants. Move over Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, and Victor Cruz of 2011, who are often referred to as the greatest group of receivers in Giants history. The 2026 class might have you beat.
Fields has a lot of expectations already placed upon him, and he has yet to even pick a jersey number. On paper, this is a slam-dunk selection, and right now, it is easy to name him as a superstar in the making. But until September, everything is pure speculation.
