The devastating news of Roy Robertson-Harris tearing his Achilles during OTAs completely flips the New York Giants' offseason script. Although he's not a star, he was an integral member of the starting front, offering behemoth size at 6-foot-7, 300 pounds. Big Blue went from feeling pretty good about their defensive line to here's hoping for a breakout from someone else.
General manager Joe Schoen can't afford to sit on his hands while the interior defense is already out Robertson-Harris and Dexter Lawrence (traded to the Cincinnati Bengals). Luckily for the G-Men, they have plenty of options, including -- potentially -- a former John Harbaugh disciple who could be cut over the next couple of weeks.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton just dropped a list of the top potential cut candidates for the 2026 offseason, and he sees Ravens defensive tackle Broderick Washington Jr. on the chopping block. If Baltimore actually pulls the trigger, the Giants could be first in line to make a call.
Giants should be watching Broderick Washington after Roy Robertson-Harris injury
Losing Robertson-Harris hurts, but adding a battle-tested veteran like Washington would immediately steady the ship.
He has spent six seasons playing rotational snaps in Baltimore's physically imposing defensive system, meaning he already possesses the exact kind of blue-collar edge that fits right into New York's new-look identity.
Granted, Washington carries some risk of his own after Week 3 season-ending ankle injury.
But with Harbs now running the show in North Jersey, the reunion vibes are off the charts. Harbaugh has coached Washington for his entire six-year career, giving the G-Men the ultimate inside track on his medical charts and team fit. With Travis Jones back on a three-year extension, Nnamdi Madubuike returning from neck surgery, and Calais Campbell coming back in free agency, Washington's the odd man out -- and Harbaugh's ultimate gain.
The 6-foot-2, 315-pounder brings a relentless motor and proven run-stuffing ability that fits exactly what this defense needs to take the next step. He's a space-eater at the line, which would free up Abdul Carter, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and even Arvell Reese to wreak absolute havoc off the edges -- er, everywhere.
If Schoen wants to get really aggressive, Moton also floated the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially cutting star defensive tackle Arik Armstead. Landing Armstead would be an absolute home run upgrade over anyone left on the market, but Washington figures to be a much more realistic option.
The Giants should be watching the waiver wire like a hawk, because if Baltimore cuts ties, Harbaugh can reunite with one of his guys and rescue the defensive line crisis in one single move.
