The New York Giants had about as good a draft as you can have. Getting that second top-10 pick for Dexter Lawrence might be the thing that breathes life back into this very unfortunate franchise.
But should they have used that second selection in the first round, which was used on offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, for another purpose? Should they have tried to move up to pick up another diamond-in-the-rough, definitive prospect, much like Arvell Reese?
Let's talk about it.
Giants could regret not trading up for Mansoor Delane
The G-Men might have missed a golden opportunity to grab someone to bolster the secondary to go along with strengthening their already strong linebacking core. Of course, safety Caleb Downs was still available at No. 10, but the G-Men went with patching up the big hole in the offensive line.
What about Mansoor Delane? He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the sixth pick in the draft via the Cleveland Browns. Should the Giants have used their first or second pick to make sure that he came from LSU to Big Blue?
Looking at the current state of the corner unit, it will be Paulson Adebo and Greg Newsome II. Not a bad tandem, as Adebo did not have a terrible season in 2025, and Newsome II just signed this offseason.
It goes without saying that Delane is going to fit in perfectly with former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, and the Chiefs might have flipped themselves back upright. The LSU corner was an animal at the college level and has already been compared to former Chiefs great Trent McDuffie.
For the Giants, it would have been very hard to try and get not only Reese with the fifth pick, but also send the Chiefs the tenth selection, and who knows what else to get to the sixth spot. The same goes if the Giants did not draft Reese with the fifth-overall selection, as he likely wouldn’t have made it to the No. 10 spot.
The hope here is that New York picked the right player. Reese is labeled to be the next great linebacker in a long, rich history of those who have played the position before him for Big Blue. The same goes for Mauigoa, as this offense could be one of the greatest that we have seen for a very long time with Jaxson Dart and company.
For now, it is all eyes on training camp and seeing what these rookies can do on the field.
