Giants might've just unlocked Jaxson Dart’s secret weapon at the perfect time

Theo Johnson may be the exact spark the Giants need on offense right now with several injuries.

There’s no sugarcoating that Week 5 was ugly for the New York Giants, who dropped a 26-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints on the road. But if there was one positive to take away from the game, it was the Jaxson Dart to Theo Johnson connection, which has emerged over the last two games.

The G-Men opened up the scoring last week with their first two offensive drives resulting in a touchdown by Theo Johnson. Not only did the second-year tight end get in the end zone twice this game, but he also had a score in the Giants’ Week 4 upset over the Los Angeles Chargers.

In fact, Dart has thrown three passing touchdowns in his two NFL starts, and all of them have gone Johnson’s way. We can’t be the only ones who realize that these two have chemistry, as Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka has also picked up on it.

The Jaxson Dart-Theo Johnson connection is only improving from here

In the last two games, since Dart has taken the helm under center as Big Blue’s starter, Johnson has totaled nine catches on 12 targets for 50 yards and three touchdowns, and this trend is expected to continue improving over time.

So this is my way of telling you, if you need a tight end in fantasy, go pick up Johnson off the waiver wire, as he’s expected to take on a significant role with several injuries on Big Blue’s offense, and he has impressed with Dart under center. It should only be uphill from here for both of them.

The media asked Kafka about Johnson and Dart’s chemistry this week, where he replied:

“When the ball has come his way, Theo’s made those contested catches... the more reps you get, the more time on task with these guys, the more comfort you’ll have.”

Dart will rely on several different pass catchers this year after Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 4. Following Darius Slayton's drop of a crucial pass, fumble, and subsequent hamstring injury in Week 5, Johnson could be in line for more opportunities in the future.

The Giants will need all the help they can get on offense if they want to have a shot at upsetting their divisional rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Week 6 at home. The G-Men are certainly going to continue to rely on Wan’Dale Robinson and Cam Skattebo, but if there’s another player who has had success finding the end zone, it’s been Johnson.
