You might've heard by now that the New York Giants are taking their foot off the gas and prioritizing a healthy salary cap over spending more money on prized free agents. That doesn't necessarily mean they're going to sit out the rest of free agency, but it's looking like depth pieces from here on out.
Well, the Giants still have plenty of holes to fill on their roster, and contrary to what you might think, there are still plenty of good players sitting out there. One of the biggest remaining question marks is what they are doing at right guard. Bryan Hudson, Aaron Stinnie, Jake Kubas, and Evan Neal are the options right now, which means another move is coming. It almost has to.
Based on the way head coach John Harbaugh has navigated the offseason so far, it's fair to assume the next player New York brings in will be a former Baltimore Raven. The coaching staff is full of them. And through the first four days of free agency, the roster is, too. Isaiah Likely, Jordan Stout, Ar'Darius Washington, and Patrick Ricard all followed Harby up I-95 to join their head coach.
And offensive lineman Daniel Faalele could be next.
Daniel Faalele feels like the next obvious Ravens reunion for Giants
Faalele is one of the most massive humans to ever play in the NFL -- he's listed at 6-foot-8 and 370 pounds. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old also moves like it. He has poor lateral movement, and with his center of gravity so high, balance is a real issue with him.
Making matters worse is that he doesn't have the technical skills to make up for the physical flaws. The Melbourne native has only been playing football for around 10 years, so there's still a bit of a learning curve, but do the Giants really want a developmental project assigned with protecting franchise quarterback Jaxson Dart?
They can convince themselves all they want that they can develop him some more, but there's a reason why Ravens fans are begging the G-Men to sign him.
Harbaugh has consistently and very publicly spoken highly about Faalele... almost to the extent that it makes you wonder why he keeps trying to sell everyone else on it. It's giving he's trying to convince himself as much as everyone else that he's a viable starter when he actually might not be.
Between Harby's public backing, them swinging and missing in the guard market already, and the fact that he played for him in Baltimore, there's a good chance Faalele is next in line for a contract from Big Blue. And that's okay... if it's in a depth role. He could be a solid spot-starter option, which is likely the only role Harbs should be comfortable with.
