The New York Giants were on the verge of beating the Detroit Lions on the road when disaster struck. The Lions, down 10 points entering the fourth quarter, found a way to tie the game up and then beat the Giants in overtime.
The game was officially over when Lions pass-rushing star Aidan Hutchinson sacked Jameis Winston on 4th-and-5, forcing a turnover on downs and handing the Giants another loss. That moment was a massive one for the Lions but Giants offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor wasn't fond of Hutchinson's game-sealing play.
"How do I say this respectfully: He did not do a damn thing all f***ing game. He strikes me as the type of guy that would try to celebrate that one play, but for most of the day I was on an island with him and he didn’t do anything. Obviously I’m pissed about the last play, but at the same time, there’s not much you can do. They know what you’re going to do and he still tries to give me his best move and I run him by the quarterback and he just manages to run back upfield and get the sack," said Eluemunor after following the loss, per Dan Duggan of The Athletic.
Jermaine Eluemunor's post-game comments about Aidan Hutchinson are awfully salty
This just comes off as salty and is not a good look for Eluemunor. First, he's complaining that Hutchinson didn't do anything all game but then also says that "he just manages to run back upfield and get the sack". That sure sounds like doing something to me.
At the end of the day, Eluemunor is mad because his team lost a game they should have won. The Giants led by 10 points entering the fourth quarter and with the way their offense and defense were playing, this should have been a game they were able to close out. Hutchinson had a huge game-sealing play to keep his team alive in the playoff hunt so yeah, he should be celebrating that.
Had the roles been reversed and Brian Burns gotten past Taylor Decker to sack Jared Goff on the final play of the game, do we think Decker would have said something like this? Also, would Eluemunor be criticizing Burns for celebrating the sack? Probably not to both of those.
It was a frustrating moment for Eluemunor but these comments just make him look like a poor sport and that's no fun.
