Giants quietly bring back familiar face in curious late-season reunion

Rogers, that.

Who says the New York Giants are done tweaking their roster for the 2025 season? Sure, they sit at a pathetic 2-11, but that doesn't mean general manager Joe Schoen is sitting on his hands -- something he's seemingly done for the previous 13 weeks.

**Correction** the last four years.

After losing defensive tackle Jordon Riley to the Green Bay Packers last week, a spot opened up on Big Blue's practice squad. Apparently, Schoen came down with a case of nostalgia -- according to Jordan Schultz, the G-Men have welcomed defensive tackle Casey Rogers back to East Rutherford:

Let's make like the night before Thanksgiving, and have ourselves a reunion! Rogers is back in NY after spending the 2025 season out of football. He was released by the Giants back in May, picked up by the Buffalo Bills shortly after, released again during 53-man cuts, and spent a couple of weeks competing in the National Lacrosse League with the Rochester Knighthawks. Truly interesting stuff.

Giants sign Casey Rogers to practice squad after Packers poach Jordan Riley

The 26-year-old started his career with the G-Men after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024. The former Oregon Duck spent most of his first stint in North Jersey on the practice squad, getting called up to active duty on December 7, before getting waived and re-signed to the PSQ again on December 24.

Talk about a year literally coming full circle.

The signing is... interesting. He's assuredly going to offer them absolutely nothing. In two career games, he has yet to record a single statistic. He did, however, block a 60-yard field goal against the New Orleans Saints in his debut, which is objectively awesome.

Even still, it's unlikely that new defensive coordinator Charlie Bullen asks interim head coach Mike Kafka to promote Rogers -- the Giants are proud owners of the worst run defense in football -- and you can bet the 40-year-old defensive play-caller is trying his best to distance himself from that title.

This move will be all but inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. It honestly feels more like a Schoen's-not-asleep-at-the-wheel-type situation than anything else -- the equivalent of moving the mouse to keep the green dot active. As for Rogers, he'll hope to parlay Round 2 into a more permanent role in the NFL, but going back to the NLL is a pretty cool fallback plan.
