There's a trend that's starting to emerge surrounding the New York Giants' offensive coordinator search: they're taking a long look at ex-Giants quarterbacks and coaches. They requested to speak with Davis Webb already, but now they're going deep down the rabbit hole with their latest request.

After Todd Monken spurned Harbaugh to take the Cleveland Browns' head coaching job, Big Blue is back to square one in their OC search, so they're casting a wide net. They have no in-house candidate to keep now that Mike Kafka is in Detroit, so the 63-year-old is finally starting to think outside the box.

Adam Schefter reported the Giants requested to interview Colts passing game coordinator Alex Tanney for their OC vacancy just hours after they requested to speak to Colts' OC Jim Bob Cooter.

At this point, who's next? Ben McAdoo? Pat Shurmur? Kyle Lauletta? Insurance broker Jake Fromm? This list of names is genuinely hilarious because it looks like Harbaugh built a time machine back to the Dave Gettleman era of Giants football, and this is the first red flag of his tenure in New York.

Giants requested to to interview Alex Tanney for their offensive coordinator vacancy

If you're a Giants fan looking at this and going "who?", I can't blame you, as he was the third-string QB behind Eli Manning and Daniel Jones in 2019, so he never saw the field. But he did complete his lone pass attempt with the G-Men, which is a tidbit that's almost as forgettable as his time in New York was.

All jokes aside, Tanney is an interesting OC candidate. The 37-year-old spent the last two seasons as the passing game coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts and spent the prior two seasons coaching quarterbacks in Philadelphia. And he only retired in 2021, so he's been a pretty fast riser as a coach.

Jones enjoyed a breakout season in Indianapolis this past year partially because of the coaching of his former Giants' teammate. The Colts ranked ninth in passing yards per game this season, and certainly would've been higher had it not been for his mid-season Achilles tear and the choice to start grandpa Philip Rivers in the weeks after.

The Colts' run game was their bread and butter because of Jonathan Taylor, but Danny Dimes was cooking before the injury. The Colts had a lot of talent for him to throw to, but having four different pass-catchers surpass 500 receiving yards is impressive, especially for a run-heavy team.

The one concern with Tanney is his lack of play-calling experience, since the Giants need an experienced play-caller to work with Jaxson Dart. But if they hire Cooter, he could come along as the passing game coordinator, or the Super Bowl-winning coach could take a big swing on Tanney.
