Who has two thumbs, has been a thorn in the New York Giants’ side for the past eight years, and could be a sneaky-good free agency addition for Big Blue once the market opens on March 11? Soon-to-be former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert.

At the NFL Combine, NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry heard that the 31-year-old is all but done in the City of Brotherly Love, giving general manager Joe Schoen and Co. a perfect low-risk, high-reward opportunity to help out franchise QB Jaxson Dart:

"While many of the Eagles headlines these days are about whether A.J. Brown will stay or go, one player I’m told that will definitely be moving on from Philly this offseason is Dallas Goedert."

Goedert moving on from Philly would be great news for New York, not only because his absence would hurt the Eagles, but he'd also be a nice security blanket and red-zone target for Dart.

Dallas Goedert could go from Giants headache to Jaxson Dart safety valve

Signing Goedert won't break the bank. And with limited cap space, that matters a whole lot. Fans might prefer Isaiah Likely, but the price tag could make that a tough sell.

Meanwhile, Goedert is a 31-year-old who hasn’t exceeded 600 receiving yards in any of his last three seasons. According to Spotrac, he’s currently valued at around $7.5 million per year. However, the South Dakota State product should still draw plenty of interest, with playoff-caliber teams looking to bolster their tight end rooms.

And the Giants are no different... well, maybe except for the playoff-caliber part, but adding Goedert to a room with Theo Johnson and Thomas Fidone II is exactly the kind of John Harbaugh-type move that could help turn things around in his first season on the Giants sideline.

Believe it or not, it wasn't one year ago that the Giants actually reached out to the Eagles to inquire about a trade for Goedert. While that might sound preposterous, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported Schoen was poking around on his availability:

"I heard at one point they looked into Dallas Goedert. He sounds like a guy who is going to get traded at some point in this [2025] draft.

Now, I am not expecting Dallas Goedert to get traded to the Giants, but the fact that they checked in on it definitely made me scratch my head a little bit... It's something they are at least monitoring."

Well, as Michael Scott (and Wayne Gretzky) once said, you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take -- even if this one happens to be Shot 2.

It's funny how life works out sometimes. For years, the 6-foot-5, 256-pound tight end has been one of the guys Giants fans hated seeing twice a season. Now there’s a real chance he could be lining up in Giants blue, giving Dart a big-bodied safety valve in the middle of the field. After eight years of being a headache, the G-Men might finally get a chance to turn that problem into their own solution.
