After a week of NFL training camp, New York Giants fans are excited for the season ahead and what year one of the John Harbaugh era has in store for the G-Men.
One of the positions Big Blue fans are most excited to watch is linebacker, especially middle linebacker, where 2026 first-round pick Arvell Reese, who has started training camp impressively, Pro Bowler Tremaine Edmunds, and veteran Micah McFadden give the Giants a clear roster storyline to follow.
With a strong middle linebacker room, you might expect the Giants to receive more national praise and for their players to get the recognition they deserve heading into 2026, but that is not the case.
PFF disrespected Tremaine Edmunds with their linebacker rankings
Pro Football Focus recently released its Top 32 premier linebackers ahead of the 2026 NFL season, featuring players like 49ers’ Fred Warner, Lions’ Jack Campbell, Eagles’ Zack Baun, and even Bobby Wagner, who is currently a free agent.
While the list is loaded with top talent at the linebacker position, not one Giants player was listed, which is a huge slap in the face to Dennard Wilson’s defense, especially Edmunds, who is more than deserving of being on that list.
Let’s remind the folks at PFF that Edmunds is a two-time Pro Bowler who has totaled 900 tackles, 8.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, 14 interceptions, and a defensive touchdown across eight seasons in the NFL with both the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears.
After signing a three-year, $36 million deal, Edmunds is entering a situation where he will be featured as a centerpiece of this defense and will immediately make an impact.
He will also be able to serve as a mentor to a rookie like Reese, who is well on his way to becoming a star, especially with a player like Edmunds in his corner.
If that doesn’t scream Top 32 linebacker entering this season, then I don’t know what will, solely based on his impact on and off the field.
I understand Edmunds not being ranked toward the top, but let’s not pretend that he was the fourth-highest-paid linebacker this past free agency behind Devin Lloyd, Quay Walker, and Nakobe Dean, according to Spotrac.
Only time will tell whether Edmunds was the right signing for the Giants, but clearly the franchise believes in him. As long as Harbaugh and Wilson use the veteran correctly, there is no reason to believe he won’t continue to succeed at this level.
