Giants’ under-the-radar coaching hire could help land Pro Bowl free agent

The New York Giants you know and love are going to look vastly different from past teams. John Harbaugh has already made massive strides in fixing the culture, and now that the new coaching staff is officially in place, the next step is surrounding what could go down in free agency in New York.

The offense is at risk of losing more key players, but knowing Joe Schoen, he'll overpay to keep Wan'Dale Robinson and Jermaine Eluemenor. However, even if Eluemenor is back, the offensive line badly needs more star power to set the new unit for success under new OL coach Mike Bloomgren.

Thankfully, Big Blue View's Ed Valentine has an idea on how to address the unit. Valentine pitched that the Giants should use Bloomgren's connections to pursue Cleveland offensive guard Wyatt Teller, who is one of the best free agent offensive linemen available and would make an immediate impact in NY.

Wyatt Teller should be on the Giants' radar after hiring Mike Bloomgren as OL coach

Bloomgren spent 2025 as the Browns' OL coach, where he coached Teller until his season ended prematurely due to a calf injury. The three-time Pro Bowler has been hampered by injuries in recent years, but if he's healthy, the difference between him and Greg Van Roten would be like night and day.

Teller has missed eight games across the last two seasons, which is alarming, but that can help Bloomgren pursue a reunion with the G-Men at a cheaper price. He's almost definitely leaving Cleveland, so Harbaugh has a chance to steal a crucial offensive talent away from Todd Monken.

Even if the 31-year-old isn't the same elite guard he once was, he's still a more than serviceable starter. He only allowed four penalties in 2025, which was the same amount that James Hudson had in one drive in Week 2 against the Cowboys, which might be the saddest statistic I've heard all year.

Speaking of statistics, Teller's PFF grades have declined considerably every year.

  • 2025: 62.3
  • 2024: 62.6
  • 2023: 72.8
  • 2022: 70.3
  • 2021: 84.9
  • 2020: 92.2

It sounds like the Virginia Tech star could benefit from a scenery change, as he has started to feel the effects of playing for one of the biggest loser franchises in sports. Part of the Giants' culture change should surround being more physical at the line of scrimmage, which signing Teller would accomplish.

Davenport also likened the addition of Teller to ex-Giant Kevin Zeitler, whom they also brought in from Cleveland during the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. After some rough seasons with the Browns, he bounced back with the Giants and has since revived his career after he was cut by the team in 2021.

Spotrac projects Teller's market value at $30 million over three years, so even after a down year, he will likely still need quality money in free agency. But the connection between him and Bloomgren is becoming impossible to ignore, so Harbaugh and the Giants will have to consider making this move.
