Giants would be foolish not to entertain aggressive trade for 4-time Pro Bowler

The Giants need to get over the Humphrey.

Sometimes two things just belong together. Buffalo wings and ranch. Coffee and Monday mornings. Dallas Cowboys fans and thinking this is finally their year. John Harbaugh and Marlon Humphrey. And don't just take my word for it, either.

Harbaugh and Humphrey go together like burgers and fries... and a milkshake... and now I'm hungry. The pair have been together since the Baltimore Ravens selected him 16th overall in 2017. Well, with Harby now leading the New York Giants, we could see the two wearing different colors for the first time in 10 years, and that just doesn't sit right with me.

Apparently it doesn't sit well with Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, either, because he sees Big Blue as the best fit for the 29-year-old's services this offseason:

"Humphrey, meanwhile, will turn 30 in July and is set to carry a cap hit of $26.3 million next season. Trading him would save $7.3 million in cap space, or $15.3 million if dealt after June 1. ... Humphrey is still a dependable starter and should interest teams as a one-year rental with a future to be decided after 2026."

Who am I to play fun police?

Marlon Humphrey trade makes too much sense for John Harbaugh's Giants

The G-Men aren't exactly rolling in the Benjamins, but that doesn't mean they can't make a Humphrey trade happen. There's a realistic route to over $160 million in cap space with contract restructures and roster cuts if New York wants to go for broke with its new head coach.

One key area that'll need upgrades is the secondary. Since throwing millions at free agents (Paulson Adebo) and drafting busts in the first round (Deonte Banks) hasn't yielded positive results, perhaps pivoting to a four-time Pro Bowl-caliber player like Humphrey can finally get the position group over the hump.

While he's seen considerable success in the slot, the 6-foot corner is versatile enough to play on the outside if need be. Dru Phillips currently occupies the nickel, but a slight regression in Year 2 could have Harby thinking switch-a-roo.

Throw in Cor'Dale Flott's upcoming free agency journey, and it's more obvious than ever the Giants should swing big on Humphrey. Knox believes a 2026 fourth-rounder and a 2027 conditional fifth should be enough to get a deal done.

If Humphrey really is available for that price, general manager Joe Schoen should pick up the phone ASAP and get a deal done.
