New York Giants fans didn’t need another reason to be excited regarding the club’s 2026 first-round picks, linebacker Arvell Reese and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa. But Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer provided another to get pumped about their arrivals — just in case.

Breer believes the Giants “may have landed the two biggest badasses in the draft.” New York “got tougher and meaner, for sure, and harder-edged too.”

Heck yes, inject that energy into Big Blue Nation’s veins. The Giants landed a pair of certified savages; one for each side of the ball. Reese and Mauigoa will be forces to be reckoned with from the moment they make their NFL debuts.

Albert Breer thinks Giants' Arvell Reese and Francis Mauigoa could be 'two biggest badasses' in 2026 NFL Draft

Reese was the No. 1 overall prospect on FanSided's Big Board, and it's easy to see why. "His explosiveness, violence and versatility stood out in a crew of freaks" at Ohio State, Breer wrote. The 20-year-old combines elite athleticism and malleability with a nastiness that head coach John Harbaugh and the Giants evidently covet.

Mauigoa is a road paver who can thrive as a guard or tackle, specifically as a run-blocker. The Miami standout will maul whoever's in front of him, no matter where he lines up. His grit, physicality and work ethic are exactly what the Giants want from their players. New York's intel throughout the evaluation process validated that notion, per Breer.

Of course, just because Reese and Mauigoa are hard-nosed doesn’t mean they’re bound for stardom. However, as Breer highlighted, the Giants are operating with a clear vision: to play with a mean streak under Harbaugh.

There are few guarantees in life, though Harbaugh and the Giants’ devotion to bringing power football back to New York has become one of them. They’re looking for a “type of guy” who aligns with their culture, which includes an old-school approach to the game. Reese and Mauigoa will be critical building blocks as the team tries to instill its philosophy.

It remains to be seen where Reese and Mauigoa fit into the Giants' long-term plans from a depth chart standpoint. The former could develop into an edge rusher over time, and the latter may be the eventual successor to veteran stalwart Jermaine Eluemunor. Either way, the two newcomers represent Harbaugh and New York to the fullest.
