NFL insider hints Brian Daboll’s next opportunity may already be taking shape

Gone, but not forgotten.

Whatever Brian Daboll's PR team is selling, I'll take two. The former head coach of the New York Giants hasn't been out of a job for three months after going 20-40-1, yet the 50-year-old is suddenly one of the hottest names on the open market.

The Giants fired Daboll on November 10, following another disastrous double-digit lead that disappeared in the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears. It was the final straw in what would be regarded as a pretty miserable four years under his leadership.

Fortunately for the G-Men, they pivoted to John Harbaugh, who was fired after 18 seasons in Baltimore. And while that's great news for Big Blue, it seems as though Daboll won't be sulking in the unemployment bin for too much longer, himself, as he moves on to his next chapter.

Brian Daboll is drawing serious interest after Giants exit

Now, before Giants fans have even finished unpacking the Harbaugh news, Daboll’s next chapter is already getting serious buzz.

It didn't take long for the Canadian to get back out there. According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, Dabs has been pursued by the Philadelphia Eagles, but Jalen Hurts and Co. aren't enough to sway him from either the Tennessee Titans' open offensive coordinator position or the Buffalo Bills' head coaching opening, meaning this guy's got options:

Talk about a quick turnaround. It's not too surprising that Daboll finds his name bouncing around the coaching carousel, but to this degree... it does feel odd how many teams are apparently throwing their hat in the ring, as if he didn't just fall flat on his face with the G-Men just 72 days ago.

The name of the game here is quarterback, quarterback, quarterback. The Bills are clearly set at the position with Josh Allen under center, while the Titans have 2025 first-overall pick Cam Ward looking to prove he can be their franchise guy. And that's where Daboll fits.

Dabs is known as a QB guru. His previous work with Allen in Buffalo, while he was the OC there, is well-documented, earning him a shot in East Rutherford and elsewhere even after four tumultuous years in North Jersey.

It'd appear as though chilly upstate New York would be his preferred destination, but Nashville wouldn't be a bad consolation -- they just hired former 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their new head coach, meaning Dabs would have total control of the offense without exposing himself to too much criticism if the team struggles.

As for the Eagles opportunity, that's pretty brutal. The fact that Daboll would be more interested in working with Ward than Hurts speaks volumes. It looks like Dabs learned his lesson from the Daniel Jones $160 million fiasco. Not touching his former QB at Alabama with a 10-foot pole in the middle of a five-year, $255 million contract could yield similar results.
