We only have a couple more weeks of wildly guessing what's going to happen in the NFL Draft, so it's imperative that we all really bring our A-game until then. It's about to be peak Smokescreen SZN, which means that we all have to blow up our mock drafts, start over, and reconsider everything we thought we knew about an event we really know nothing about.

Take the Giants, for example. For a while there, it didn't look like they were in the market for a QB with their first round pick. They already signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and while that wouldn't technically preclude them from taking a QB in the first round, it'd be awfully weird to see it happen. Then we all got in our heads about that and considered that, yeah, maybe it is still possible? The draft tends to get weird at some point every year, and this would fit the bill.
But in the past few days, we've arrived back at the idea that taking a QB would be dumb. That's in part thanks to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, who wrote up a big mailbag about the Giants' draft plan earlier this week. In it, he suggests that the Giants will probably end up going Best Player Available, and then throws two names out there for your consideration.
Albert Breer suggests that the Giants aren't going to take a QB in the draft after all
"The Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to incentive-laden one-year deals. Both have their viability as starting quarterbacks on the line this year, so they’re competing for dollars and their respective futures. The two have been in the league for a combined 23 seasons. Never has either of them had a highly drafted rookie behind them. So, to me, that’s not how you’d build a quarterback room for a rookie who is going to be playing a lot in his first NFL season ... In other words, if you had one year to prove yourself, would you spend that year’s most valuable asset on a guy who wasn’t even going to play? I’d bet Hunter or Carter will be a Giant."
I'd also bet that one of the best four players will be taken with the third overall pick. Am I an NFL Insider now too?! It's not all that surprising to hear, but Breer's obviously well connected enough for there to be some actual intel behind it. Maybe it really is time to make your peace with Russell Wilson.
