Just when the NY Giants are riding high, of course some injury adversity arrives for Brian Daboll and his team. Specifically, there’s a bit of concern on the defensive side of the ball, as star pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is banged up.
Seemingly out of nowhere, it was just announced that Thibodeaux suffered a wrist injury in the win over the Seahawks in Seattle. Not only that, but he had to undergo surgery to fix things. With that, Brian Daboll said he’s week-to-week - his status for Sunday Night Football vs. the Bengals is surely in doubt.
Kayvon Thibodeaux underwent wrist surgery out of nowhere
With the Bengals heading to East Rutherford soon, is this going to be a break for Joe Burrow and Co.? We hope not. Cincinnati is 1-4 on the year and the Giants are in a great spot to improve to 3-3 if they can come out on top in Week 6.
However, this latest update on Thibodeaux sure stings a bit, especially if he's forced to miss multiple weeks. It's unknown at this time just how long he'll be out, but with the Giants defense playing so well, any snaps he misses will be brutal.
The G-Men enter their next game leading the NFL with 22 sacks, which speaks volumes to how the group has performed, especially against Seattle. Dexter Lawrence led the way with his three sacks, but Thibodeaux and Brian Burns were strong, as was D.J. Davidson.
With Thibodeaux hurt, it's going to open the door for Azeez Ojulari to get more playing time. Sometimes it's easy to forget that when healthy, Ojulari can make a massive impact for Big Blue. He's looked strong coming off the bench, but now he'll have to operate at a high level should Thibodeaux be out longer than Daboll hopes. Regardless, this Thibodeaux surgery has fans worried and understandably so.
