The NY Giants have had a miserable season but that might not be enough for John Mara to make a change at the head coaching position in the offseason. During an "In or Out" segment on ESPN NFL Countdown, Adam Schefter said he believes that Giants head coach Brian Daboll will be safe.
"John Mara has told us all along he does not want to make change and he has also railed against the NFL for making sure that the league doesn't have dead money in coaches salaries. Brian Daboll's got time left. Giants fans aren't going to be happy about it but Brian Daboll and the general manager Joe Schoen both safe right now."
More NY Giants news:
The Brian Daboll era got off to a promising start when he helped lead the Giants to a 9-7 record and playoff berth. Winning that playoff game against the Vikings is strangely enough where it all went downhill, as the Giants front office then extened Daniel Jones and well, we know how that turned out.
The Giants have just three wins on the year in 2024 and one would think it'd be easier to can Daboll and hire a new head coach when the team is going to have a new quarterback in 2025. The strategy of getting a new quarterback when the coach is on the hot seat is a bold strategy and seldom works out but it looks like that's what the Giants are going to do.
It sure sounds like Brian Daboll is sticking around in 2025
Maybe once the Giants get a decent quarterback (if that's even possible this offseason) then we can see Daboll get back to what once made him the Coach of the Year in 2022. The Giants once held the number one pick in the draft but coughed that up when they beat the Colts last week. If they win again in Week 18 over an Eagles team that isn't trying to win, they'll plummet even further in the draft order, making it more difficult to draft a quarterback.
The Giants might end up having to be aggressive in the offseason in finding an alternative option at quarterback. Daboll's job certainly depends on it.
