The NY Giants might have passed on Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft but that doesn't mean we're done talking about him. The Colorado quarterback went from being the potential second overall pick in the draft to tumbling all the way down the draft board and not hearing his name called until the fifth round.
By now, Giants fans are well-aware that their team's meeting with Sanders went about as poorly as it could have gone. Albert Breer previously reported that the Giants brass gave Sanders an install that had mistakes in it. When Sanders didn't pick up on the mistakes, the Giants called him out on it and Sanders was "pissed that they did that to him".
So yeah, that was one red flag that recently came out about Sanders' interview with the team holding the third overall pick. With that knowledge, it's not the least bit surprising that New York opted to pass on Sanders, taking Abdul Carter with the number three selection instead. While they traded back into the first round, it was for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, stunning draft viewers everywhere.
Well, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Sanders never truly saw things working out with the Giants.
"While the Giants worked out Shedeur Sanders the week before the draft, Sanders sensed much earlier that New York probably wasn't in the cards for him. Sanders openly acknowledged during the predraft process that he didn't hit it off with Giants coaches, per a source."
Shedeur Sanders reportedly "sensed" that it wasn't meant to be for him and NY Giants
If Sanders was "pissed" about something going awry in his interview, it's probably a safe bet that the coaching staff wasn't keen on him either. That would make it clear as day that the two sides weren't good for each other and with Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen needing to hit on whatever quarterback they take, it's no wonder they passed on Sanders.
It's also not as if the Giants were the only ones concerned by Sanders' antics either. The fact that he slid to the fifth round proves that other teams were worried about adding him to their rosters as well.
That being said, Giants fans are going to hope like crazy that Dart is the real deal and that Sanders doesn't pan out. If he goes on to tear things up in Cleveland, passing on him, even with the red flags, is going to be a tough pill to swallow. For now though, it looks like the New York Giants made the right call.
