Losing Saquon Barkley looks terrible after latest highlight-reel play
By Matt Sidney
The New York Giants fell to the Washington Commanders in a close 27-22 loss today, marking yet another disappointment in what has been a tough season for Big Blue.
While the offense showed some spark in the second half, they fell short, leaving fans wondering where the big playmakers are when they need them most. Unfortunately, one of those missing pieces is making highlights elsewhere, specifically, former Giants star Saquon Barkley, who’s now shining for the rival Philadelphia Eagles.
After the Giants let Barkley walk in free agency, the Eagles swooped in, and Barkley has since become a playmaking force for Philly, delivering the kind of explosive moments New York desperately needs.
Saquon Barkley’s latest highlight for Philadelphia Eagles shows what Giants are missing
In a jaw-dropping play this weekend, Barkley leaped over a Jacksonville Jaguars defender with ease, leaving fans and analysts buzzing.
It’s exactly the kind of highlight-reel move that once electrified Giants fans, but now, it’s doing the same for their NFC East rivals. Watching Barkley execute these kinds of plays for the Eagles while the Giants struggle is a bitter pill to swallow.
As if simply watching the play wasn’t painful enough for Giants fans, the Eagles have even coined a term for defenders who get torched by Saquon: getting "Barkleyed.”
In the clip below, the announcers twist the knife, commenting, "Poor Giants fans sitting at home watching [this]." Ugh, really guys? Did we have to go there?
For the Giants, today's game was another missed opportunity.
Despite a late-game push, the Giants’ offense lacked the firepower to finish strong. Daniel Jones finally threw a touchdown at home, breaking a 672-day drought, but overall, the offense was uninspired. It’s hard not to think about what might have been if the Giants had kept Barkley.
His presence in the backfield could have changed the game today, giving Jones a reliable weapon and taking pressure off the passing game. Instead, Barkley’s dynamic ability is sparking the Eagles’ offense, while Giants fans are left wondering if GM Joe Schoen made a costly mistake letting him go.
Barkley is having an incredible season with the Eagles, piling on the frustration for the Giants. The standout running back had 766 rushing yards and five touchdowns coming into the Eagle's Week 9 matchup against the Jaguars.
Giants fans can only imagine what could have been if their former star had stayed in New York.
