It's no secret that Russell Wilson is entering his first season with the New York Giants as a mentor to Jaxson Dart, the potential next franchise quarterback.
While Wilson has certainly enjoyed his time in New York thus far, listing wide receiver Malik Nabers as one of the reasons why he decided to take his talents here, many Giants fans want to see Dart take the field at some point during the season.
Despite Wilson being a clear upgrade at the quarterback position over what New York has seen over the past couple of seasons, the former Super Bowl champion's leash as Big Blue's starter in 2025 may not be long.
Could Russell Wilson lose his starting job earlier than we have anticipated?
Now that the Giants have moved on from Daniel Jones after selecting him with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, there is an opening for the starting quarterback position. Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen have made it clear that it will be a competition for the role, even if Wilson is seemingly considered the QB1 for the season ahead.
However, there have been reports, and Daboll has stated publicly that Dart has done great so far during his development at minicamp. Is this a sign that we will see the former Ole Miss gun slinger in 2025 sooner than expected?
Wilson may still have plenty more in the tank after a solid lone season with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year, as well as receiving high praise from the Giants' receiving core thus far, but you have to figure that Dart could soon take over this season, especially if Wilson and the Giants struggle early on in the season and fall quickly out of the playoff picture.
John Mara and the rest of the Giants' ownership have made it clear that they're sick and tired of losing, having endured a franchise-worst 3-14 season last year and set a franchise record with 10 straight losses.
With the NFC East featuring two teams that reached the NFC title game last year, and the Philadelphia Eagles eventually winning the Super Bowl, and the Dallas Cowboys improving during the offseason, changes could be made during the season.
If Wilson does not show vast improvements on offense for the Giants in 2025, his first and perhaps only season in New York could see him lose his starting job.
