T-minus 48 hours until Giants fans get to see Odell Beckham Jr. suited up again in Giants blue for the first time since 2018. That's right. The moment we've been waiting seven years for is finally happening.
The New York Giants will play host to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, August 15, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. It'll be the first of three preseason chances for roster hopefuls to prove they deserve a spot on the 53-man roster. And there might be no bigger name grabbing headlines than OBJ.
For anyone wondering if the 33-year-old would see any preseason action, head coach John Harbaugh couldn't have been more straightforward if he tried. Big Blue's new head coach told the media on Wednesday that the polarizing receiver will be playing against the Vikings, bringing an overwhelming amount of nostalgia along with him.

This is Round 2, a legitimate shot at rewriting an ending Beckham never asked for. When he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2019, it felt like unfinished business cut way too short. He came back to East Rutherford a different man. He has openly reflected on how his year away from the game in 2025 allowed him to heal "spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically".
The star power is still there, but it's backed by a maturity he didn't have the first time.
The reunion started as harmless offseason flirtation. Hiring John Harbaugh as head coach changed everything, given their shared history in Baltimore. One workout in the spring was all it took to turn a rumor into reality. The Prodigal Son was officially back.
But the feel-good trip ends when preseason kicks off on Saturday. His training camp hasn't exactly been a highlight reel. Odell finds himself sitting on the third string of the initial depth chart, locked in a spicy roster battle with Jalin Hyatt, Braxton Berrios, Dalen Cambre, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, among others.
Without any special teams utility to fall back on, he has zero margin for error. Consider Saturday his first real measuring-stick opportunity.
As for who will throw him the ball, Harbaugh went full gamesmanship mode. When asked if Jaxson Dart would get in on the action, the 63-year-old laughed it off, saying, “That’s a good question I’m gonna have to dodge.”
If Dart sits out to protect him from getting hurt, expect backup Jameis Winston to get the nod. Winston is already feeding the hype machine, telling reporters he cannot wait to hear the stadium explode as soon as number 13... err, 3 (for now) runs out of the tunnel. It's going to be electric.

Strip away the depth chart politics and the roster math for just a second. Seeing OBJ run back out of the MetLife tunnel is nothing short of pure, unadulterated magic. The feels are going to be reals. Odell Beckham Jr. is New York, and a strong showing against Minnesota could all but turn this nostalgic comeback attempt into something nobody would’ve believed possible a year ago.
Preseason football is rarely this consequential, but Saturday’s game could go a long way toward determining whether Beckham’s homecoming makes it all the way to Week 1.
