One of the biggest storylines of the New York Giants' training camp this summer has been the positional battle at wide receiver, and with the NFL roster cut deadline approaching on August 30th, they’ll need to trim their roster to 53 players.
The G-Men have already waived veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster to make room for Najee Harris and Ryan Miller. NorthJersey.com and USA Today’s Art Stapleton also reported that Big Blue has fielded calls for veteran Darnell Mooney.
With Mooney’s play style similar to Darius Slayton’s, rookie Malachi Fields impressing throughout the summer, and Malik Nabers nearing a return from a season-ending ACL injury, Odell Beckham Jr. remains on the bubble, leaving Giants fans wondering if he will make the team.

OBJ has had his highs and lows throughout training camp and the preseason, but his most recent performance against the Miami Dolphins may not have necessarily helped his case for making the team.
Beckham Jr. had a chance to stamp his mark on the wide receiver battle in the Giants’ second preseason game against the Dolphins. While the 33-year-old didn’t particularly have a bad showing, recording 2 receptions for 17 yards, he had one moment that may have hurt his chances of making the team.
In the second quarter of Saturday’s victory, right before the end of the first half, the G-Men were on Miami’s 15-yard line when Jameis Winston dropped back and floated a pass to Beckham Jr. for what would’ve been his first Giants touchdown since 2018. Still, the veteran couldn’t bring it in as the ball slipped through his fingertips, which may have hurt Beckham Jr.’s chances of making the team.
That play did not sit lightly with Beckham Jr., who looked frustrated on the sideline afterward. Odell knows he isn't guaranteed a spot, and John Harbaugh has said before that he will have to earn it.
If the G-Men decide to keep six wide receivers on their roster, Nabers, Fields, Mooney, Slayton, and Calvin Austin III are likely locks, leaving Odell, Braxton Berrios, Isaiah Hodgins, Jalin Hyatt, and Dalen Cambre competing for the final spot.
The Giants have one more preseason game this Friday night against the Jets. That matchup will offer Beckham Jr. his final chance to prove why he deserves to make the team before the Giants face a difficult decision.
