2 Giants players sealed their roster fate with embarrassing effort on Jets TD

This was downright inexcusable.

The preseason finale vs. the Jets was a great opportunity for some players to prove to Brian Daboll that they deserve to stick around with the NY Giants for the long haul. Some players didn't get the memo, however, as their poor play confirmed that they're going to be getting some disappointing news once cut day arrives on Aug. 27.

We hate to call out some guys, but both Darrian Beavers and Darnay Holmes showcased in the 10-6 loss to the Jets that they can't be relied on to make key tackles. Need further proof of that? On a long touchdown run from Israel Abanikanda in the first half, the lone TD in Gang Green's win over Big Blue, both Holmes and Beavers had the chance to bring him down. Instead, they somehow didn't. This clip is brutal to watch:

How does that even happen? These are the kinds of plays that would force Brian Daboll to rip his hair out - if he had any that is. This has been a common theme for Beavers and Holmes this preseason, which obviously isn't going to be tolerated.

Beavers was a late-round pick in 2022 and it looked like the Giants landed a steal thanks to how he was looking throughout camp that year and early on in the preseason. Unfortunately for him, however, he suffered a torn ACL and had to spend his rookie campaign on the sidelines. He worked his tail off in his rehab, but he's never quite reached the potential people had for him.

As for Holmes, he was drafted by the G-Men in 2020. He was brought back this offseason on a cheap deal to provide some veteran experience, but he has no business sticking around. Missed open-field tackles are infuriating to see and this particular play from Holmes and Beavers was simply embarrassing.

It's not the only reason why they will not be included on the 53-man roster, but it sure speaks volumes to why the coaching staff won't be putting their trust in them moving forward. This kind of effort to post a tackle is shocking and something that should never happen.
